This is the time of year I like to do our family photo shoot cause the weather is beautiful and it isn’t so hot anymore. I have been doing them since Kaylie was a baby and I love seeing how much the kids grow each year. When choosing a location we always lean towards going to one of our local parks since they are family friendly and you can’t go wrong with green foliage as your background.
I like to do different color schemes each year and for this year I went with a light and airy vibe. When choosing outfits for the family I always start with the kids since they are the focus and I want their outfits to stand out more than mine and Chris’s. How I coordinate outfits for family photos is very simple, I start with one of the girls dresses, I find a print I love, and search for coordinating colors to match. For this particular photo shoot I chose colors from Layla’s strip dress to help me decide on a color scheme for the rest of the family. I find it helpful making a picture collage of all the outfits to visualize the look you are trying to achieve. I ended up getting a great deal on all three kids outfits from my favorite store Janie and Jack, the quality is incredible and to me they are all heirloom pieces.
Aside from outfits and color schemes anyone with small kids knows how challenging it can be keeping their attention, so I always come prepared with lots of snacks to keep them happy. A little bit of advice I have is try not to get frustrated if everyone isn’t look at the camera. I know we all want that perfect picture but sometimes its just not achievable with little ones. I remember I use to get myself all worked up cause someone wasn’t looking thinking the photo won’t be perfect. Looking at the photos from this year my favorite one is the action shot of us walking and sometimes those action shots are the best ones.
